2003 - Centre for Sustainable Living Press Release - March 2003 Centre for Sustainable Living
We are presently designing the Centre for Sustainable Living in Wonthaggi, Gippsland. This centre will recycle and incorporate houses that otherwise may have been bulldozed and consigned to landfill. Wherever possible, recycled and plantation timber will be used in the construction, sourced as close as possible to the building site.
The instigator of this project is Wonthaggi resident Denise Miller, better known for her expertise in wine making and Permaculture. It is her visionary ability and her positive approach which drives this project, which promises to become a centre piece in Sustainability. The major part of the building will perform at around twenty plus stars, whilst the later section we believe will deserve a ten plus star rating. This effectively means that the building will need no additional heating or cooling.
The project has been designed to involve and strengthen the local community, employing artisans and trade people from the surrounding district to work on all aspects of the centre.
A journal will be kept by all participants, in order to calculate the amount of Greenhouse gas emissions released during the realisation of this project. The savings will then be posted in the centre, along with regular updates on how much power is being generated from the sun and wind and what this means in savings of energy and emissions had power been otherwise sourced solely from the grid. Press Release - February 2003 - Book Release Date The long awaited Book as sequel to the Film is on its way John is currently writing a book entilited Tilting at Treadmills to follow the highly successful video on sustainable living of the same name. Due for release in 2004 Due to the overwhelming enquiries all pre orders are only available by contacting us direct by email.
